I'm going to shift the hours of my second jay oh bee to Wednesday so I can ride on Thursdays. Bobbie is about done with rugby so I have no reason to work on a Thursday.

I'll see you guys on the trail in a couple of weeks.

More ass kicking than anything else, though. I haven't done squat in the last couple of moths because of a heavy school and work load. If I have an evening to myself, I usually spend it on the couch.

I think that Bobbie has her final practices this week so I should be back on the trail before Memorial Day. If not, definitely the first week in June.

May go out this afternoon.

Anyone tried the Hoyles Mill Connector trail? Runs from Shaffer farms to the Black hills park.

so i'm in the market for a new bike as it came to my attention that my parents got rid of mine a few years ago and i have no idea what i want to get. most of the places i would ride are paved trails in and around philadelphia.

i used to have a road and a mountain bike, and just not sure which way to go now.

any recommendations?

That is a tough one, James. There really is no true "dual purpose" bike. Sure you can ride a MTB on the road but you will be killing yourself with the inefficient gearing. This is only made worse if you are riding with your roadie friends.

If better than 75% of the time you will be riding is going to be on paved or at least hard pack, get yourself a good road or cyclocross bike.

If you see yourself seeking out off-road parks more oft then not, get a mountain bike.

The biggest question is, though, what is your budget? You can get a pretty nice bike these days for $500 to $600 but expect to pay a little more if you want something lighter or faster.

i thought the budget was going to be in the 300 to 400 range but it looks like it might go higher,

i was at my local REI the other night and saw their Novara series, they call it an Urban bike, not really MT and not really road. but it nearly doubles the budget,

I'm leaning more towards a road bike but really don't want to find out what happens if i hit a pothole or something else in the path. would still like some of the forgiveness that the MT bike will give.
