Update 04/02/07

Wiring before

Wiring after. This is the main switch for the kitchen area. Had to add one switch to power the under cabinet lights.

Two layers of linoleum just for me. Actually this was not that hard to remove, it was all the stables that held down the two layers of luann under the linoleum that slowed down the project.

Backer board going up in the backsplash area. We plan to tile the area. We got differing opinions about whether or not to use backer board here. Some said drywall would be fine, others did not. Since we had the wall accessable and backer board is not too expensive, we did it. Better safe than sorry.

Back to the bathroom. This wall here adjoins the living room, so when people were using the bathroom, we could hear everything that was going on. Hopefully, insulation will solve that problem.

Drywall up. Have I told you how much fun it is to tape and spackel?

First wall of cabinets up

Have a few more pics in the camera, hope to get them up today.

Update 4-02-07 part II

bathroom walls and lighting done only things left are the floor and cabinets. and sink. and toilet. and door. Dammit

Here is a trick to keeping the wall cabinets level is to use a cleat that you level then use as a support to mount the cabinets. Pay attnetion to the wall cabinet by the window. Notice its nice finish?

notice anything differnt about that same cabinet in this picture?

well, here is the first major oops we did in this project. When we were sweating the pipes for the sink base in this pic, we found out that...

...wood and fire dont mix. Got that kiddies. WOOD AND FIRE DONT MIX. We placed the torch up here when we were working in the sink base and before you could say "oh Sh*t" the cabinet had a new black finish.

Now, say what you want about Lowes, but they are replacing this cabinet free of charge Thank you Lowes.

and the installation continues....

Tile floor going into the powder room. Tile spacers FTW.

Floor done and grouted This is the same tile we are going to use as our backsplash. Seems how it is kinda pourous, we are going to have to seal it to death, especially behind the stove.

If any of you want any advice about laying a tile floor, it is this...use a wet saw. Cheap/expensive, it does not matter. Dry saws and nippers serve only one purpose--frustrate the heck out of the user.

Most cabinets installed except for the one above the stove and the fridge, which we have to remove, because they are 24 inch cabinets. You use 24 inchers if you are installing 42 inch cabinets. Since ours are 36 inch, we had to *adjust* our order. The last pic is our countertop installer measuring for our tops. The next round of pics should be granite installed and the last cabinets in

Wow, that looks awesome! I hope you get your new cabinet sometime soon. I'm glad you didn't burn anything else!

Got granite Friday. Pics up soon. Unfortunately, they put the holes for the sink right on top of the cabinet frame. And it is a 10 inch deep sink right up aginst the sides of the sink base--23 inch sink in a 24 inch SB. Going to take some serious tact to get this cut right.

The granite installers indicated that they would like to attach the dishwasher to the bottom of the granite. This meant we had to lay some of the hardwood floor down underneath the dishwasher in order to bring it up to the level of the finished floor. I did not want to use plywood here jic you could see the floor along the sides of the DW.

Just a sample of the floor we will be laying in the rest of the house. Hopefully, we will not stripe it throughout the house.

And this is how they get the granite to the house.

Sink side

Island side

Its starting to look like a kitchen again. We even have knobs!

Island close up

Sink side close up

Vanity close up.
Getting the sink set and faucet set tonight.
Countertop installers are coming back tomorrow to cut out the rest of the hole for the kitchen sink and soap dispenser. Then its on to setting the backsplash. Never done that before, anyone have any tips/advise?
