Sounds like a good plan, BUT a lot of companies won't bend the 12 month rule though and you might want to hold your tongue if you know for a fact that they'll deny you because of that.

update, got the approval from my boss, she wasnt overly happy about it, but said that i deserve the opportunity if i want it.
