Ask Bill about the deal he got.
Definitely got a good deal... picked up a used Klein Attitude Race (one of the lighter aluminum MTB out there) for $800... MSRP new was ~$2500-$3000

Since I've never been off-road yet, I vote for something relatively simple like Seneca.

And since people are just getting back into it and probably don't need to hurt themselves the first time out this season, something for us beginners would be good too.

Aaron - maybe you wanna collect links to trails, trail reviews, trail maps and post 'em up in the first post?

List of Easier MD trails for Aaron:

Seneca Creek State Park
Schaeffer Farms Trail Network
C&O Canal
Cabin John Trail
Lake Needwood

sounds like a plan.

I heard this is how to skirt paying the fee at Seneca:
But really, the fee is only a couple of dollars, you're parked in the park vs. the side of the road and the park could use the money to maintain the trails, etc.

In on the MTB thread.

At Seneca you just park in the lot on the left just before the gate and ride in.

Can't go Sunday.

I have been to Seneca this year and parts of the Cabin John trail. Both were pretty good for me.

Just rode 6 miles of road. Nearly ready for some trail... I'll work on the first post a bit later with trails, maps, and such.

Id love to go with you guys, but Im busy sunday too (with George )

Next sunday?

And Seneca is awesome... I did the lake trail twice... you can go pretty fast through there!

To park without paying isnt parking along the side of the road. Its a regular parking lot right before the gate. Just wave at the lady in the gate stand on your way in, she said we didnt have to pay.

Heres my bike... paid 689 for it. Bought it from a local shop in hagerstown- free tune ups for a year. Figured Id ride this one to see if I actually like mtb (which I do now) and maybe find one like Bills in the next couple years.
Sarah has an 07 model of the same bike minus the disc brakes... shes got almost 1k miles on it and its still running strong.
Mine has 200 miles on it and has been strong as well... we dont exactly "baby" our bikes either!

If you guys want to drive a bit further, there are some tougher trails up by me.

Greebriar is nice, some parts smooth (like seneca/shaffer farms) other parts rocky as hell but if you want to try some harder hills- with some technical downhills, this is a great place to try
Plus then afterwards we can all go to Cales house for a recovery drink. (beer)

Gambreill has ALOT of rocks. Scary amount of rocks.

Up towards cumberland is Rock Ridge, its an AWESOME trail system. Like Shaffer Farms but a little hillyer, and alot longer.

Im still exploring different places in PA
