I am looking for a mountain bike for bree and me. I have some old bike I bought from walmart or something of that nature and i'm pretty postive it's going to go soon. I think i'm going to do the "Ride till the welds break" theory however I would love to know how much i'm going to be spending for a bike and around what size frame.
Because of your height, you may want to go to a local bike store and try some sizes out; then shop used on www.mtbr.com forums.

It is highly unlikely that you will actually break the frame, Jason. The problem is that your bike is probably steel and weighs a TON. This makes it harder to pedal and you won't have as much fun and will eventually just hang it back up. The less expensive bikes usually have garbage equipment, too. Those cheap derailleurs break and bind on the trial all the time. This will only add to the frustration and make you give up even faster.
A decent, relatively lightweight mountain bike will only cost you about $400. If you are going to be serious about it, this is an excellent investment that will "pay" for itself.
