Default Video rendering/compression

I'm looking for a program to compress videos. I have a few videos that are between 24 and 30mb but would like to compress them. What do you guys use?

Also having some issues with playback. The videos are currently AVI's (that's what my digital camera records in) and it works perfectly on my computer; however, some people have issues with it where there is sound but no video. Tried to convert it to WMA, and then my computer crashes (stupid PC's). Any idea?

If you're not really looking to retain quality, you could just use movie maker which comes on xp.

The quality isn't too big of a deal as long as it's decent.

I did use movie maker, and it automatically converted it to WMA. Then when I tried to play that file, computer would go to poop and crash.

Poop of death!

Hm, check on www.vcdhelp.com it's a good website that covers a lot of things. They might recommend IFOEDIT or TMPEGENC (or whatever it's called)

Sounds like a plan. I'll do that when I get home.

I bought the full software pkg from DivX... love the codec. It's very efficient and you can choose exactly how high of quality you want it to be based on how big you can allow the file to be. It was like $20...
