808overgixxer, so you were able to get a RECON with drop springs. Do you recall which inspector performed the inspection? Did he push down on the front of the car to "measure" travel? Why did it take 6 weeks?

EDIT: Thanks...I wrote this before seeing your response. I read your thread on FH...I need to get back to work.. ha ha, just great, they didn't perform the bounce test? I'm afraid if they did, a stock S won't pass RECON!

I got the caucasian guy, I can't place his name, but from my experience and other's he's a bit more lenient. I've talked to a few military I work with -- 4 out of 4 passed RECON on their first try with zero aggravation...

When I needed recon on my DC5 I went down there bone stock. I guess they weren't too busy then because I was able to "talk story" with one of the inspectors about what I would need for the mods I was considering and any suggestions he might have. I got his name, thanked him and when I came in, asked for him. He took a quick look at the alignment specs, measured the license plate (which was zip tied ridiculously high for the inspection) and passed me without any hassle.

I also think the recon law is too problematic but rather than stress over it, I took the "local style" approach; get to know the person, not the inspector.

Sorry to add to the thread jack.

yeah I'm sorry about the thread jack too.

Took 6 weeks from the day my car got off the boat till the day it was legal. It took about a week to get the tires shipped, and I had to wait almost 5 weeks for the appointment. It took 2 days of constant calling to get through to the recon office and when i finally got them, they were backed up for 5 weeks. So yeah, I waited the 5 weeks. They said i could call each day and check on cancellations, i did it... every weekday but there weren't any in all 5 weeks. If I could have just drove in like in the old days i would have been legal the day after my tires got installed, but due to the appointment only system and the refusal by the office to accept walkup's when an appointment holder does not show up, I had to drive illegally. kinda silly stuff, but it's over now.

I actually had that lois (titan on FH) woman's husband, I can't remember his name, but it don't matter to me since I'm not doing any other mods that require that I go back there.

back on topic, how does that tint hold up to being folded when the top goes down?

and slightly back off topic, what are you gonna do with the stock ap1 rims you have leaning against the wall? I need a set for autox

Also regarding the bounce test, none performed on my car. My old rx7 had 2 filipino's stepping on the bumper and fenders and bouncing up and down. that was BS.

If the inspectors did a bounce test on a stock s2k you'd have to get dents pulled out of the soft fenders.

Nah, no big deals on the thread jack...it's an evolving thread. Beside's this is a local forum. Haven't put down the top yet. So I can't say. But it's "curing" nicely. Removal is easy and reapplying it is just as easy. I might have to take it off for my annual inspection soon cause it's 20% tint. I couldn't get anything lighter.

I called RECON early afternoon yesterday and just this morning and nobody's answering....to followup on the intake/exhaust.

I'm a bit split on the stockies. Tires have 8K miles on them and they're not in bad shape. Not sure what I want to do with'em just yet. I like the idea of spares and I've seem some of them being painted black and it looks good. I'll let you guys know.

When they performed the bounce test, the inspector opened the hood and push down on the top of the wheel well on my other car...

What did they fail you on?
Never failed, b'c I never made it there.

No one knew where it was, I couldn't get the street names down in memory, and my lunch hour wasn't long enough to make it through traffic and back. I got lost every day. I'd hate to say my treatment in the area wasn't too hot b'c I was in uniform, but it felt evident. I talked between RECON and inspection stations, and info. was mixed. IIRC, RECON asked if I had safety and I said no b'c I needed RECON to get it. So I went for a safety and the station said I wouldn't pass b'c of window tint (35%), intake, and suspension (1" drop). Hickam didn't let me back on one day; I explained my situation, they said no, I asked if I could leave my car in "Visitor Parking", and they said yes but that it'd be towed if longer than 15mins. I missed appts. and briefs that day, and called my 1st Sgt. to get me on. I was told to park it at my barracks until it was going for a safety, or prepped for safety.

It's the law, there are procedures, and I understand. VA was hard too, but everything was clear, concise, and orderly. TX, pfsh, easy-peasy.

Eventually I got safety after taking everything off, except tint, but I still hold a grudge. ***I forgot to check your plastic window, again, after being at home earlier today (back at work)***

My s is from VA, had a little sticker on the windshield and a little card that went along with it stating it's legality. former owner said it wasn't too hard since he wasn't into modding it, but it was a very concise law.

35% + or - 6% is legal in Hawaii. That 20% on your plastic window will not pass, however they did not bother to check the tint on my S when I pulled in. I could have put 5% on the back glass and they would not have known. just go for the recon with the top down, they prollly won't say shit

if you wanna sell those stockers, let me know. I'm actively looking for a set of either ap1 or ap2. either that or I'm gonna just buy some kosei's from TR cause they are so cheap.
