so I get pulled over by the cops...
That sucks Justin.
Basically, I think the cops are abusing their power at the moment. They're terrorizing our way of life and profiling us. I hope it's just a phase and they will ease up after some time.

hell yea it sucks, but not as much as for you! it must be a pain living in waikiki with your car. i feel for you man. this kinda crap makes me paranoid. i don't need to be getting tickets for stupid stuff. now i'm really worried about installing my suspension and exhaust...
Its funny about all this recon talk. I lived there for 5 years and never got a recon ticket in my S2000. Infact I only got pulled over twice. Once for my JDM headlamps that was dismissed and the other for no front plate.
IMO, you do not need Recon. Its a huge waste of time.
When we lived in Pearl City we had the manager of Recon that lived right next door to us and he loved my car. Infact he told me not to bother with recon because the cops wont stop you due to the fact that you have a nice car and thousands and thousands invested in it. We even had a sheriff that lived two doors up and he always would BS with us when we would be washing our cars and told me not to bother with Recon as well but he said because I would not pass and the fact that it was a nice car and they probably wouldnt bother you anyway. So I took their advice and it was true in my case.
Its sad to see them picking on fellow enthusiasts.
Now being back in California I thought the CHP would have a field day but they always go right by me and some have even complemented how the car looks at a local Chinese joint we goto all the time. Local police also havent hassled me. Knock on wood. But the time has come to smog my car and switch to California plates. So front plate goes back on and tint comes off..

well i finally got my dose of harrasment last nite. its about 1:30am and i turn into 9th ave from waialae. i'm cruising along at maybe 30-33 in a 25 and i was driving for about half a minute before i see some headlights turn on to 9th behind me. i didn't even think anything of it. one minute later those headlights are on my ass and i see blue lights. i think ok i was speeding, but was i really gonna get nailed for just going 5-8mph over? the cop asks me howcome i was speeding so i asked him how fast i was going. he tells me he paced me going 50! i'm like wtf?! no way i was going 50! just because dude speeds up to 50 to catch up to me he thinks i was going 50 too. i thought i was gonna get totally blackballed on this one, but the guy was pretty cool. he just told me to slow down a bit and let me go. just because the car looks fast, it doesn't mean i'm going fast!

Regular squad car or a personal kine car?

It seems that Steve isn't the only one. I also got pulled over by a bunch of blue-shirt noobs for things like no front plate to having too loud of an exhaust. Here's my side of things...
I wasn't speeding or anything since traffic was also an issue making such actions impossible, however since my car is red, a Honda and a vert, that got their attention. My front plate issue is something I can't contest so I paid the 80 dollar fine, however I went to the Pearl City station to make a formal complaint on paper about them pulling me over about my exhaust since I've been getting pulled over for this for over a year. My beef was the same as Steve's... I wasn't revving nor was I taking it past 3k at any given time. My car actually passes the db tests easily (and so will Steve's believe it or not). Harley Davidson bikes will also pass the db tests as they are possibly the loudest things on the street.
I think it's a stereotype that S2000 owners are ricer/streetracer breed and my theory on the subject is that they treat us the same way as they do most modded Civic owners.
In the State of Hawaii, you can get a paper from the recon station that states in writing that you don't need recon for an exhaust upgrade (yes, it sounds incredibly stupid but this form actually exists). If any HPD officer says that you need recon for your exhaust, he's mistaken... he may ticket you but all you need to do is get that piece of paper and you'll get your ticket dismissed albeit a $5 court fee in some cases.
