Default Dogbox interests

well, I was having a discussion with someone a few days ago about a transmission solution for the s2000 platform. I have utilized PPG products for sometime now. I would like to hear what are your thoughts and interests in other solutions such as getting a more affordable and parts ready dogbox...

all of us are aware the PPG product does work well, however, it does come with a very steep price tag and getting replacement parts does have challenges due to the company being overseas..

So, let me know who is interested. I always love to see more parts available and more exposure for our cars. Thanks for sharing

As much as I drive my car on the street and know how a dog box isnt the best for this. I would LOVE to have one because of how good they are for the track. I cant justify spending half the price of a ppg setup. If they were more similar priced to the other dog box out there like in the $4000 range then it would be doable for me. Not sure how affordable you are talking though. If its going to cost me around 10k for a trans and diff setup then i might as well sell my car and buy a supra.

Im holding out on that idea for something cheaper to come my way.

I know we have crossed this bridge before but a T56 conversion would be perfect in my mind. You can find a T56 cheap but with a bell housing, trans mount, shifter, clutch, slave cylinder, clutch line, trans speed output adapter, drive shaft........ I would be very surprised to see it cost less than the PPG gears.

forgot to add i know of atleast 2 other guys who desperately want and will buy a trans upgrade but are in the same boat as me and cant justify spending more than 4-5k.

So find something in that range and you have 3 sold already.

someone mentioned that the t56 might not like a motor that revs to 9k though. have you fgound anything that proves it will work?

I'd buy one in a second. I already plan on buying a PPG setup so if it was cheaper and equal quality it would be an obvious choice

I wouldn't be able to stand dogboxes for a DD street car. That constant whine would drive me insane.

I'd love to see a good synchro box for our tranny that would run about $3k-4k. If I had to go with a dogbox, I can't imagine spending more than $4k-5k. Hopefully it can be done either way. $8k for the ppg dog box is just stupid expensive even though it works very well. I'd rather see something done to make the stock tranny more reliable and strong than swapping in some other manufacturers tranny in. It just seems going the tranny swap route will make the s.....well, less of an s and an enthusiasts drivers car if you know what I mean. Inline pro really needs to come up with a good synchro or dog box setup for us at half what ppg charges and just as reliable and strong. Get it done for us inline pro!

Btw, I just look at the ratios for the PPG gearset. The ratios aren't too tall. I had thought that they would be extremely tall for drag applications but they're not that bad. Interesting... Kutsujula once said that his 4th on the PPG setup hit 145mph.
