Default Hardtop Wind Noise FIX - DIY

We picked up a CR and there was the dreaded hardtop wind noise in the gap behind the window where the hardtop sits on the door moulding. It was worse than our previous hardtop. There really weren't great solutions (and mine might not be that great either).

Previous discussions involved replacing or adding parts.

Get weatherstripping replaced

Last post - wedge foam between seal

No solution

Added weatherstripping, but no pics

Here's the gap that makes the noise. Exaggerated for effect. When the door and window were closed, I could see daylight around the window through the gap in the moulding.

I noticed that the hardtop moulding just barely touched the body panel moulding with a little gap in between them. I was going to sandwich foam in the gap and cinch the hardtop down. That was what rikhemi in the 2008 thread was describing.

But I used the mantra: "Honda engineers don't suck." Tried to see if there was an easier fix.

If you grab the weatherstripping on the hardtop, you can slide it down a few millimeters. When done properly, the hardtop moulding sits in a little rubber "cup" created by the body moulding.

No gap and no daylight seen anymore. Looking at it afterwards, I'm sure that's what Honda engineers intended. The pieces fit together really well when optimized.

Cliffs notes: I massaged the rubber on the body panel upwards and the hardtop moulding downwards to create the overlapping section that eliminates the "gap" that contributes to wind noise from the window corner.

Nice. I am going to look into this because I get that exact wind noise which i'm sure is coming from that area. It's funny you mentioned rik because I have his HT now
