Default Bad Results from Compression Test...

So I decided to purchase a compression tester yesterday and run a compression test. The results:

appx. 230-235 on cylinders 2,3,4

appx. 170-180 on cylinder 1 after three tries

So I've decided to take up the repair on my extended warranty coverage with Century Service and have the work performed at a local Honda shop here to isolate the problem and fix it.

My question is:

I decided to install a Fujita CAI over the weekend as well. Is there a chance that I could have my warranty voided from the intake? I looked over the contract and didn't see any clauses about aftermarket modifications other than turbos and superchargers. I guess it would depend on if the shop tells the warranty company about the intake right???

I would put the stock intake back on. Better safe than sorry.

yeah why give them any ammunition to possibly try to use against you?

put the stock intake back on to avoid the headache. You'll also probably want to have a shop do a compression test as well to confirm the results so you have adequate back up and not just your word that something is wrong.

Make sure the compression tester is seated completely and the spark plug seat is clean. I've had a bad test because of that. Worth a shot.

so what led you to do a compression test and assumably assume that something is wrong with your car?

compression tests are not very reliable..... do a leakdown before you do anything

Well I honestly felt that my car had lost some low and midrange power. I wasn't sure if this was due to ECU trouble (maybe a MAP whack), or if it was due to mechanical trouble. The tester I used was a brand new Craftsman kit that I got from Sears. The testing procedure for every cylinder was identical, including the number of times I cranked. I tested cylinder #1 twice, thought it was strange that it was sitting that low, then tested 2, 3 and 4 twice each, and then came back to test #1 one more time just to confirm.

I have the appointment set up for tomorrow morning simply because I really want to get it fixed ASAP and would really hate to have to put in that clunky stock air box in again after all the trouble of putting in the new intake. They are literally a mom and pop shop here in San Diego that specialize in Honda. I've taken the S there a couple times before and am leaning toward the notion that they wouldn't "tell on" a loyal customer.

Thanks for the input/support. I'll be sure to ask for a leakdown test in a addition to compression and update as soon as I find out what's what.

its important that they have worked on more than a handful of S cars in the past imo and know them very well.
