Question Anybody here able to help me with my resume?

Hey guys, I am at a crossroads in my life ( I am sure a lot are). Ever since I was a kid all I wanted to do was be an Airline Pilot. Fast foward to my 30th birthday, I am sick & ****** tired of being treated like shit by airline management, quasi-retarded gate agents, ignorant asshole passengers and most importantly, I am tired of making shit money and letting a Seniority number dictate my financial well being. I feel I am too talented of a person to simply let somebody else negotiate for me, or to sit by and fly a goddamn airliner for 50k a year waiting for the economy to bounce back.

Anyway, outside of Aviation I have little experience. I am a Union Rep, so I can maybe twist that experience into something good, dealing with management on a daily basis, working on contract negotiations, preparing pilots for arbitration etc.

Anyway, does anyone have experience with resumes, or career changers etc?

I have a 4 year degree in History from Rutgers.

How about Fed Ex or UPS? No passenger, no gate agents, etc.

I love to fly Tailwheels with no doors or radios, flying an airliner is difficult, you are bound by THOUSANDS of Federal Regulations, company policy & procedures, you have hundreds of checklists, have to fly the airplane specific way, everything you do is scrutinized, job is on the line ALL the time for what? To be hassled by some HS dropout TSA agent who probably makes more than I do? No thanks

Blasting through a layer to watch the sunrise is cool, but after a while you start to resent it because you are hanging on for all the wrong reasons.........

FedEx or UPS is like winning the lotto in the piloting profession. You need 1,000s of hours of Ocean crossing experience. In order for me to get that I need to upgrade to Captain here (wont happen for years), then get hired at an airline that does European crossing, then get hired at UPS or FedEx. With each move you make you start at the very bottom (schedule & pay)

I appreciate the piloting links but believe me, I know all about 'em. this is not about finding another aviation job, its about prepping a resume for a career change

That blows. I guess I'll tell my son not to become a pilot, at least a commercial one.

Good luck.

Well quite frankly with a four year degree, you really can do a lot, whether it's relevant or not. Anything in the business world, really. Have you tried looking intra-company for a career change? Just a thought. What about teaching, you'd have to get the ECE credits I'd imagine... but you're already 9/10ths through that game.

Minus things that are very, narrow-fields, like the sciences/med/law, the world is your oyster with just about any degree. Oh also, what about law enforcement? Oh, and do you have a specific question about resumes or?

Not true.

From what I gather from all of Joey's posts about how much he hates his job is that he could move up. But it'd be too much of an ego-blow to go to the "big airlines" because he'd get his salary cut, hours cut (maybe), and have to work his way up from the bottom again.

It's not that he can't succeed with other companies/jobs in the airline/pilot industry, it's just that he doesn't seem to want to take the proper steps. If it was easy for everyone to get to the top, everyone would be there.

Just like not everyone is an anesthesiologist, or a CEO, or a Bill Gates. Some people have the drive, others start with the drive and can't finish, and some don't try at all.

Truf. My aunt has a BS in... something like Food Science. And she was a VP at Gap Canada for years. Worked her way up from retail management. You can do whatever you want as long as you set your mind to it, have the drive, and are willing to make certain sacrifices.
