Don Palmer
Anyone else been to see him? I went yesterday and was amazed at how much I got out of it. 3 hours of me, Don, my S2000, a set of cones and a large stretch of Bruntingthorpe. All for the price of about 2 track days. (OK, i'm going to need a new set of S02's as well.....). And the sun was shining. Please remind me how my Sunday could have been any better......
I've probably done 10-12 track days before, plus my ARDS license, so I wasn't starting from scratch, but I improved my driving more yesterday than in the whole of last year and certainly shaved lots off my future laptimes. He was really impressive at getting me to improve and understand my driving, rather than just shouting "faster", or "slower" around the track, which has usually been my general impression of track day instructors. Generally, if you want to explore the outer envelopes of you and your car's ability, and totally understand what you are doing, I can't recommend this man highly enough. Full-on opposite-lock power slides are there for the taking. Or not, if you want more speed and less smoke. I spent an hour or two creating smoke as I learned how little I really understood what the car was doing, and then the last hour flying round at twice the speed without any dramas. It's nice to really get to understand the car in all its tail-happy glory as well, rather than just read autocar's scathing comments and wonder what they know that you don't. By the end both my brain and my tyres were overloaded, but my driving exceeded my expectations by a long, long way.
Apparently it's unusual not to have at least one other "pupil" on the day, but that may not be a bad thing. As it was, we only had one pause, when Tiff Needell drove up and asked us to quieten down for 10 minutes - 5th gear were filming about a half mile up the runway and, whilst they were trying to do an interview, all they could hear was my car screaming! Hopefully next time 5th gear is on, if they are testing a couple of new minis, you should be able to hear a vtec soundtrack in the distance!
Like I say, the best Sunday morning i've had with my clothes on, and the most i've learned since skool....

I'm a Don Palmer Graudate. A quick search with his name should show up the threads with what I've said. I was lucky in getting a mostly dry day, but with overnight rain so Bruntigthorpe was wet, but drying during the day - perfect.
I can't praise Don highly enough. I've noticed now that there are 4 training courses being run by Don (some in conjunction with Callum Lockie). The 'Creative Car Control' course I've done was the second. 'Advanced Car Control' is next some time.

I'm a Don Palmer Grad too. I had a fantastic day there in early March. I had a guy with an Exige on tution too. Having now done a couple of track days since it's paid for itself in saving my tyre bill
I've asked Don for info on the advanced course, but there's no information available yet....
Pete - get it on your "must do" list; you'll realise you're no where near the S2000 limits on the road
