ICE: Sorry to hear about the loss. Hopefully all goes well with the replacement of your motor under the factory warranty. A friend of mine recently had the same thing happen to him. He was unaware of the oil usage of the car and ran the thing dry. He was able to get the motor replaced under warrranty w 19K on the clock.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Yes, I have checked the oil a few times (and added two quarts) since I got the car. . .
The car has no modifications (except a mingster dead pedal and Ricks S2000 Stckers). . .

I'm honestly not angry or pissed yet, because I believe Honda will cover the problem. . . However, if they don't. . .

Yikes!

Please let us know what they diagnose as the root cause. Many of us are interested in, and tracking, F20C failures.

Sounds like #4 cylinder oiling failure. There was a sequence of block parts where the oil jets for the #4 cylinder weren't formed correctly, causing lousy oiling of the #4 cyl. I think the manufacture dates are from, like 05/00 to 11/00... What's the build date stamped on the inside of the driver's door?

If it is a #4 cylinder failure, Barry is keeping track of all of them. Make sure to let him know.

Greg Stevens had an engine failure, but it had to do with a sprakplug popping out. Yours sounds more like a #4 cylinder failure. So far, Honda has replaced all of the engines under warranty. The only engines they haven't replaced under warranty were the ones due to driver error (over-rev when downshifting).

I found out Friday afternoon that the cause of the problem appears to be the valves. . .

Man! that sucks!
A engine replacement will kill the resale value of your car, cause the engine Serial# will be different than your car's VIN #. People will think that you wrecked your car or you drove your car too hard and killed the engine. Just make sure you have the dealer document the fix for you on their computer.
