2001 Needs New Engine. . .
Thanks for the heads-up regarding resale value. . . However, I plan on having my S for a very long time (though, I will make certain that I retain all paperwork & have my dealer log it in their computer).
I'll keep everyone posted. . .

Oh Jeez I just found out the build date of my car was 10/00, does this mean I'm likely to suffer number four piston failure as well? 8500 miles on the car now and nothing but good sounds coming from the engine, at least so far...
I have 000488 from 2001....I have yet to lose even a drop of oil even pushing the engine to the redline often.
I did follow break in....but have been pushing it ever since. Car has 11,500 on it now.
It certainly could be a bad batch of parts at some point. At least I'd like to think it is

my vin is VERY close to those that are posted. not too scared, but mine is at the dealer right now getting TSB's done.
is there anything that can be inspected to see if this is failing? and if there is something to see, is there any preventative measure that can be done? of course, changing oil/checking oil/etc. but... anything I'm not thinking of at the moment?

ICEMAN666, sorry to hear about your #4 cylinder failure.
Here's the link to my past history on these failures. I haven't heard of any between last August and yours.

I'll add yours to the list.
My car is #52 from USA '01 model run and was manufactured in August, 2000. I was at mile 650 when mine failed on January 4, 2001.
My replacement engine has about 3,000 miles on it and has been perfect. I'd expect about 3 to 4 weeks without the car from the time they determined it was a #4 cylinder problem.
Just out of curiousity, was your car low on oil when you took it in. Mine wasn't and several others weren't. I think most were. I'm not sure whether being low on oil caused the #4 cylinder failure or whether the #4 cylinder failure caused the oil to go suddenly low.

Barry,
Thanks for the link. . .
Regarding my oil level, the dealer said that my car was only about 1/2 quart low (which doesn't seem like much). . .
Either way, I'm glad I still have my Prelude because 3-4 weeks would be a killer if the S2000 was my only car.
I might stop by the dealer this weekend to check on my toy. . . I'll keep everyone posted.
