4th gear popping out
Hi S2K'ers,
I have this strange problem: my 4th gear pops out
regularly. It has happened a dozen times already. Car
is 1 month old and 4000KM under the belt. It appears that
it happens more easily when the transmission is cold, but
it also happened once when I had been driving for over
an hour. It's always when I'm cruising quite easy at
about 70-80 KMH (45-50 MPH), without accelerating.
Do more people have this problem? I have discussed it
with my dealer within the first week (happened 3 times
back then). The mechanic said: this doesn't happen with
Honda. At first I thought that I didn't pull the lever
in to the gear enough. But it's either in or completely out.
I'll contact the dealer again.
Is it maybe related to a TSB?

It has happened a few times on mine when the transmission was cold. It has been rare and just a minor low speed annoyance for me so I have taken no action. It does sound like you need to be more insistent with the dealer.. I do not think it is related to any TSB.
This is the second time someone has brought up this issue. SomethingWicked posted this problem the first time. Here's the link to that thread (I hope I do it right): http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=3118
Ronald, you may want to email SomethingWicked directly to see if the problem was ever fixed. It sounds like your case is more severe.

I think tranny problems including grears popping out have been discussed a few weeks back.
Also, have them check the tranny linkages. I once had this problem with another car and it turned out that the linkage (from shifter to the tranny) was not set up properly and the tranny was just clinging to on the edge on some gears.
Good luck and hope you get it fixed properly.
