Default Hitting a brick wall in First Gear

I have had this problem happen twice today. Both times it was when I first got in the car to drive it.

I drove my car from my garage, through my neighborhood and to the surface streets. There, I punched it in first gear (from a dead stop) and at about 6,000 rpms the engine just stopped. I flew violently forward like I had just smashed into a brick wall. The engine didn't die it just stoppped accelerating.

I drove normal the rest of the way to work. After I left work I did basically the same thing. Once I was on surface streets I punched it with the same effect. It happens right at 6,000 - just when it is starting to wind up.

I kind of invisioned this type thing happening when you send it into the red zone and continue to press the gas but I am well below redline.

Any ideas what is happening? I am afraid that I might hurt it if I continue to do it but want to be able to punch it when I want/need to.

Both times the engine was recently started after having sat for an hour plus.

Thanks.

The RPMs are retarded before the car is "warm". Warm means 3 ticks on the engine temp gauge. The car will not go over 6,000 RPMs (or somewhere around that) when it is not warm.

Dontcha wish the dealer had told you this!? The problem is, they don't even know!

3 Bars! The ECU will not let the RPM's go above 6000 until 2 bars and 7500 until 3 bars on the temp gague.

I was expecting to hear a story of an accident. You should have named the thread "Like hitting a brick wall in first gear".

Hee Hee, I found out about it the same way . . . I shrugged off the limiter in first and went on to find out it does it in any gear heh, that was about a 20 months ago.

My limiter is set around 6800rpm, so I get the VTEC for just a sec for a tease and then you get slammed into the seatbelt. Its better anyway to let it warm up for awhile.

Thanks for the info. This happened to me once, I had no idea WTF it was. It probably would have happened again if I didn't read this thread.

I took delivery of the 2nd S2000 sold by my dealership...they knew nothing about the car. Reflecting back I have been surprised that they did show me how to close the hood correctly.
