Maybe it's just that I have more respect for internal combustion engines than some, even if we are talking about a relatively bullet-proof Honda product, but in general you should never, EVER, "punch" an engine that's not fully warmed, it's just common sense if you want to keep it healthy! I agree that Honda did the right thing by electronically preventing VTEC before the engine is warmed, they're saving us from our own stupidity. Stop and think for a moment- reving to 9000 RPM's before the oil is properly viscous? C'mon people, use your heads.

Wesmaster,

It's a shame that some dealers don't realize this. Only the most successful car sales and service people spend the time to gain product knowledge. Unfortunately, most are promoted to dealership management positions and then they do not insist that their employees, especially their sales force,

I am really glad I found this thread. This happened to me once and the shutoff scared the begesus out of me. I could never reproduce the behavior but now I realize this was because I always let the car warm up.

Thanks again!

This happened to me a couple of times too....Glad to know why!

I do want to know this "special technique" to close the hood. I've brought it down to a position where it is almost closed and lightly dropped it shut. Am I doing this correctly?
