Hitting a brick wall in First Gear
The same thing happend to me two months ago, and it happend twice. When V-tec kicks in, you jerk back. I wouldn't have realized either if i hadn't read this thread. I assumed I accidentally double clutched and that happend. Both incidents were in a 24 hour period, and I was trying to show two different people the performance of the S2000. Thanks to whoever started the thread.
Hey Wes,
The manager at my dealer has/had a red S2000, and he didn't tell me anything important/valuable about the S2000's handling/performance. He was also my salesperson (my dad didn't want to go through a salesman).

This is an excellent protective feature on the engine controls of the S2000. You should never run an engine at elevated rpm until the engine is at operating temperature. As a matter of interest, many of us have discussed putting an oil temperature gauge in the cockpit to confirm engine warm-up in addition to the "3 bars" coolant indicator. I would prefer to monitor oil temp to confirm operating temperature. The problem is no great solution for locating another gauge in the snug cockpit.
I actually did this a few times also. I thought the car was broken and was going to seriously take it in to the dealership. Good thing this board exists. Found out what was wrong within a few seconds.
Yep, you do learn to take it easy...Don't want to hurt my S2000. But I have noticed that it only takes a few minutes for the car to warm to operating temperature. Took my other cars a much longer time to warm up.
The rpm limit based on temperature is mentioned in either the owners manual or the service manual. I discovered the "brick wall" while trying to merge ahead of highway traffic about a week after I got the car. After that I read through the manuals hoping I hadn't broken something.
