Can the newer glass rear window be replaced by the older plastic one?

Silly question, right?

Oh well, I got tired of seeing the question the other way, and I thought it would make us owners of older S2000s feel better!

Besides, the plastic one would be better if your goal was reducing curb weight to an absolute minimum.

wow i had to read the question twice!! I was wondering if it was possible to replace the entire roof, window, morot, supports and all. because we all know they fold differently, but do they attach to the car differently

I have seen no proof yet that they fold differently OR attach to the car differently.

After a review of the parts manual and the different parts, the hoops do not appear to have different numbers though some of the fasteners do. AFAIK the only real difference is in the glass.

The plastic window cannot be replaced with the glass one as the glass one is not seperate form the top. You could conceivably swap the top in it's entirety, but you might be better off selling the car and buying a new one with the effort and time involved.

I have been considering coming up with a retrofit kit, but the labor alone to install would be several hours and quite a pain...

Nevermind me if I'm wrong, but I had the notion that the top with the plastic window folds so that the window itself is folded. If this is the case, it MUST fold differently if it's glass (glass can't fold like plastic)...

Again, I might be wrong, so if I am, ignore me!

The glass rear window is smaller therefore it does not need to fold in half. It takes up less space. It just finds its way down into the well and top follows it. This is something Honda should thought of at the inception.

Yep your right Palmateer.... Ultimate would be no top, no top motor, though.

I like the plastic. Its bigger, I just take a little extra care of it. If it gets crappy I replace it. Whatever...
