Default Nakamichi SP-S6500 / ADS 246i separates installed?

Has anyone installed these speakers on their S2000 and are there any fitment issues (space, depth, etc)? Are the speaker wells deeper or the same for the 04 versys 00-03?

hey there,

great choice!
i just installed ads 246 components in my doors - they are fantastic! i also bought/installed 2004 s2000 tweeter grills ($45) and mounted the ads tweeters right behind them. looks fantastic as well!

there are no depth issues whatsoever.. i had to cut the baskets though and basically only left the mounting/spacer ring portion of it (without that it will hit the window mech. when windows are lowered). holes on mounting ring were off a little too so i drilled four new holes into the mounting ring that line up with the woofer mounting holes.
i am making this sound worse than it is.... super easy, and as i said, looks & sounds fantastic!

oh, one more thing!... there is a plastic pocket built into the lower rear corner on the inside of each door panel (i have no idea what it is for). this is a perfect spot to mount the crossover. they press fit into this pocket and can be screwed down as well.. there is no moisture issue because they are between the plastic liner glued to the door and the door panel...
i stumbled onto this after a long search for a stealth mounting location...

i'm not 100% positive here, but i would bet money that there is no difference in mounting depth from a 2000 to a 2004. they don't make enough of these cars to go to the expense of changing little things like that..

I just finished installing ADS 236is in my doors. Just had to cut the backs of the baskets off. Didn't have to drill any new holes. All the mounting holes lined up perfectly. Installed the crossover in the plastic basket in the door and dynamatted the outer shell of the door.

Thanks!

What amp are you all powering the speakers with?

Is there a reason why you chose the 246 over the 346 series?

I chose my setup because I didn't want to spend a lot of money and I didn't want to give up my spare or trunk space. Here's my setup and the reasons I chose them.

Alpine 9833: More expensive than the others but I'm saving because it has the vdrive amp which is more powerfull than the on board power on the lower models. This was my way of saving money and space by not having to buy an external amp. It plays Mp3/wma, so that I don't have to spend more money and use up space with a cd changer.

ADS 236is: I knew that 2 channels on the deck would not be enough to power component speakers, so my first requirement in components was that it could be bi amplifiable. Front channels for tweeters and rears for the mid/bass. Second, since I would not be adding a subwoofer, I wanted speakers that would play as low frequencies as possible. These are rated at 40hz. The higher models seem to be at 80hz.

Dynamat: Again, since I'm not adding a subwoofer, I used the dynamat to "amplify" what little bass I had. I installed one side without dynamat and listened to it with and without. It seems to make a really big difference in my setup.

So that is my poor mans space saving system.

i'm using an ads pq10 (4x40 (way underrated!!)) amp. it's seven years old in mint cond & i bought it on ebay for $35 ($450 when new).
i searched for this amp specifically because it is the only high quality 4ch amp i know of that fits under the drivers seat (11x8x2). still have full seat travel, you don't even see it's there and cooling is a non-issue as well!

i could have bridged the amp to create 80x2 but instead chose to mount mbquart dkd-116 (6.5"co-axials) ($45 shipped) behind the seats.

the reason's i went with 246's are the following:
cost
didn't think i would hear the diff for the extra $150..(convertible, etc).

i'll likely put that savings toward a nakamichi head unit next year..

i believe i'm correct when i say the diff between the 246 and 346 is the x-over. the drivers are identical..

i think i made the right call after listening to my system for a couple of weeks now.. i really don't think super high buck component speakers would sound any better..... really....it sounds that tight..

i recommend a great brand's mid line product - and last years model leftovers give additional price relief... imo anything more than that for this car is overkill.

i put all nakamichi speakers in a supra i had back in the mid 90's. their product is (was?) great too.
