Default Door speaker replacement

I had this sales guy at Tweeters tell me that due to mounting depth I was really limited as to what I could put in here or I would have to make a spacer. Is there any truth to this or what? What are some speakers you all have replaced the factory ones?

im in the market for speakers myself since i recently purchased alpine 9851. according to my research, speakers with top mount depth of less than 2 in will fit with little or no modification. check out infinity reference 6012si or eclipse se8365. i went to check out eclipse se8365 at a local shop and the installer stated that it will fit prefectly. the sound quality blew my mind so im thinking about getting it installed soon.

normal 6.5 speakers have mount depth of greater than 2 in. do a search and you will find numerous members with spacers to overcome the mount depth.

You can make a spacer or you can just cut the back out of the speaker basket. The guy from tweeter shouldn't have made it sound like it wasn't possible though. Its not that big of a deal.
