Default Should I Return This CF Hood?? (pics)

The body shop received my Amuse-style CF hood from Evolution. The body shop said that the shipping company wouldn't take it back, because there is no shipping damage (scratches, chipping, etc.). However, there are manufacturing defects (under the clear coat).

I know that this is not a real Amuse hood (over $3,000), but for $600 + $100 shipping, I don't think it should have defects like this. Let me know what you guys think.

I would especially like to hear from anyone who has purchased an Amuse-style hood.

I'm sure it would cost me another $100 to ship it back. I could paint it to match the car, but paid for the CF look. I'm hoping Jeff from Evolution Autosports will have some kind of solution.

-Pete

I would. Especially after forking out the dough for a nice hood.

I wouldn't be happy with those defects myself.

I would... but keep in mind, short of the 4 figure hoods, most other ones I've seen aren't what I would call perfect or near "good". I had to have 3 or was it 4 different hoods shipped to me for my crx before I got one that was somewhat "good".

I'd see about getting that exchanged.... I wouldn't be able to live with that.

You have to see it on the car. Honestly, most of those wont even be noticeable. Even if you are up close and on teh car it will still be hard to tell.

My Js hood knock off has a wierd weave or two on a radius, but what can you expect for what we paid for them.

Unfortunately, this put s a bad face on evolution. This is like the 4th hood in a couple of weeks i v heard that has been sour. The worst part is, its the manufcaturers fault, not Jeff's. The only solution i can see is the manufacturer stepping up and giving a couple free hoods to Jeff for his troubles. In return, Jeff should refund some of the unhappy customers money.
Not likely to happen considering these things came from China most likely, but you never know. Its worth a try.

I feel your pain. I got the vented cf hood by VIS and it has similar defects with the weave and several chips in the clearcoat around the edges. I got it through MB Autosports and Mihn (?) said he'd see what VIS would do. I understand that it's not the vendors fault, it's the manufacturers, but I think that there should be a disclaimer from the vender that it won't be perfect quality. I didn't get to inspect mine until it was already installed, because it was shipped directly to my bodyshop (it was covered in my insurance). Had I inspected it before, I would never have had it installed and taken it back for a "better" looking one. Mine's pretty bad and I almost feel like I got the worst of the bunch Had I known, I'd have saved a little more money and gotten the J's. Good luck.

Hey Pete,

I'd say send it back if it's really obnoxious looking.

You could always partially paint it with some sort of creative paint scheme with a diagonal or partial paint job on the hood if it would work.

As far as the shipping cost, I'd ask that they work out a 75/25 deal on the shipping where you only pay 25% and have them bill the manufacturer for flawed hoods. Maybe even the full amount if they're willing.

A little OT, but does VIS have a website?
