I have a feeling that he did something to cause the EPS light to come on. So, in answer to your questions - nothing except to turn that light off.

Is this for when your stearing wheels is off centre?? because if it is I could really do with that as my wheel is lob sided and its abit of a pain in the ass but not a major issue (just one of those little niggles)

This is quite common and the fix for this is the disconnect the steering joint in the rod that extends down from the steering wheel. This joint is located in the engine compartment. You disconnect and move the whole thing over one spline at a time till you are centered. It can be done at home but if under warranty, should get the dealer to do it. No wheel alignment is necessary unless you already need one.

As for why? You'd need to reset the EPS so that the torque sensor neutral position can be learned/re-learned. There could be a case when you don't really have an EPS light on and still benefit from a reset. The "reset" is not really a reset, it's more of a procedure to learn the steering's neutral postion.

If your car steers fine, you SHOULD NOT attempt a reset unless you like to experiment for fun.

Assuming that your car is perfectly aligned, you might benefit from a reset if :

* Your steering turns in one direction easier than the other. e.g. going straight, you turn the steering left and it turns more/less compared to when you turn it right.

* Coming out of turns the steering trys to return to the straight ahead postion better on the right curves compared to the left ones, or vice versa.

Other than this you WILL need to reset the EPS if the gearbox is replaced/fixed or the EPS control unit is replaced

Disclaimer: I'm no expert, just learning about the EPS system since after my car had an accident I found the steering was not right and improved after an EPS reset. Since I have some free time these days I'm experimenting with the EPS to find the best possible steering feel for my taste.
