Passport 8500 vs. Valentine 1
Both are better than any others.
Go read up at http://www.speedzones.com . This is a great site.
Click on the Escort logo to read a review of the Passport 8500 which includes a direct comparison with the V1.
I like the V1 better for its directional information. The Passport 8500 may have a slight edge on Ka. The V1 may have a slight edge on laser and X and K.

Malachi, I got this one
On the upper right hand corner of the screen, there is a link called search, you can easily see hundreds of conversation threads about the V1 and Passport
Or you can go here: http://www.radartest.com/

http://www.radartest.com is a bogus, anti-V1 site without a valid comparison. Avoid it. It has an axe to grind.
Shame on you, Richard. Your posts are usually excellent, but that is a bum steer, in my humble opinion.

Mingster is one of the greatest assets on this board and I love having him here. Unlike me, he's one of the few members who has actually created new products for the S2000. Every day I drive, I enjoy Richard's deadpedal, the first accessory I bought for my S2000. I also bought my Spoon X brace from him. HE'S A GREAT GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think http://www.radartest.com is an inadequate site for help in choosing a radar detector.
Here's some examples why.
They think knowing about radar from behind is not valuable.
They state that the V1 is not programmable when it is highly programmable.
They state you cannot turn off individual bands on the V1 when you can.
They think the use of the accessory display leads to clutter when it doesn't.
They rate the sensitivity as poor on Ka when others http://www.speedzones.com for example show the Ka almost as sensitive as the Passport 8500 and more sensitive than the Bel 980.
I suspect either that they compared the current Passport 8500 to a very old V1 or that they just flubbed the testing. Read it if you like, but read other reviews too.
Having said that, I think the Passport 8500 and the V1 are each excellent and are the two at the top. I have no regrets in choosing the V1. Another member of this board actually tried both the Passport 8500 and the V1 and ended up returning the V1 and choosing the V1. I'm sure some have done the opposite too.
Anyone who says that either of these is "poor" is off base. I think http://www.radartest.com is off base and biased.
You cannot go wrong choosing either.
By the way, my V1 is my fourth radar detector. My three previous detectors were all Cincinnati Microwave products: an original Passport, a Passport 4200, and a Passport 4600. I still use the Passport 4600 in my Prelude. The V1 is far more sensitive than the Passport 4600.

Nick, you probably know about this but loki's thread has great advice for doing the install.
http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=3213
My install is just like his except I didn't bother the the accessory display (although I have it) and I ran the wire under the trim rather than under the weather strip. Under the trim usually would be a bit more work (not much more), but I combined it with my hard top install.
Here's a link to a bunch of pictures about my install, including where the wiring went.
I wired up a double female spade piece to go from the V1 cord to the fuse box spade.

Best to you, Nick. You did choose my favorite detector.
