i don't think there are many of us.

but woot here too!

now to see who will get it in their car first!

do people have amp suggestions? i'm guessing something that will do 2ohm mono.

my current possibles

alpine mrv-m350 350 @ 2 ohms RMS, $140 (from etronics.com)
kicker kx400.1 400 @ 2ohms RMS $240 (from etronics.com)

the kicker is under-rated, closer to 500 is the consensus on the net. the alpine seems nice for the price.

the rockford fosgate 351M or 500bd also look decent on paper. but i'm partial to kicker over rf.

feel free to chime in...

I'm thinking about a memphis 250D -- should be around 300W @2ohm. They run about $240 from a local authorized dealer. I've got a memphis 500D from a previous install, but I think 500W is going to be a bit too much juice. The alpine you listed is interesting, but not a 'class d' design.

well, from my previous ramblings you might remember that i'm planning on using a Kicker ZR-240. it's listed for 400Wrms @ 2ohms, but i wouldn't be surprised if i ended up w/ closer to an actual delivery of 550+ Wrms @ 2ohms. it's probably going to be a bit hot, but some careful tuning should keep me safe... it definately puts me at the upper side of the rated zone...

btw, you mention it not being a D class amp almost as if that's a bad thing... why? personally, i would have said exactly the opposite... i'd see an AB amp as preferred and a D as an acceptable alternative...

and is it just us three? wow, i thought there was more talk about this than just us...

whoops i meant the Alpine MRP-M350 which is a class D amplifier.

i think that memphis 500 will be fine, the ED subs look like they'll take a lot of power. the recommend power is around 400 and the max is 550? hmmm

i'm looking at the kicker 400.1 and i'm expecting it to be close to 500 watts @ 2ohms as well. of course that Alpine looks like a great deal for that power.

but will either memphis amp fit under the seat? i guess it's just the three of us. remember to post pictures once you get it in!

Either memphis will fit under the driver's seat with no problem. The 250D is 6.5 x 2 x 8.25 inches and the 500D is 6.5 x 2 x 10.5 inches. The 500D may be a tight squeeze on the passenger's side. I plotted the e8A in a .38 sq ft box (the WLAURENT box) and it reached xmax around 350 watts if I remember correctly. That's pretty much in line with what the responses were when I asked for suggestions over on the eD forum at soundillusions.net. Consensus was 300-400 watts in that box. That alpine does look like a great deal for the price though -- more power for the same price as the JBL 300.1. I have a RF 500bd just sitting here if anyone wants to make me an offer on it...

hmm, now you have me worried about the kicker amp, since they under-rate their amps so much. hmmm maybe that alpine will fit me nicely, i'm just worried the amp might be over-rated. having too much power i can at least manage (to a certain degree) but if the amp is over-rated, there's not much i can do to get more power out of it!

man i dunno what PJK3 will do with that monster kicker zr240 amp!

and sc_highlander, how many amps do you have just sitting around?

Well... umm.... just two -- the bd500 and the memphis 500D. Both from previous installs. I've got a RF 12in HX2 sub and an alpine CVA-1006 just sitting around too, though...
