Here's the thread: http://forum.soundillusions.net/showthread...&threadid=20516

I thought there were more posts than that, but apparently it was mostly through PM's that we came up with 300-400 Watts, depending on how much poly-fill you add to the box. I'll re-plot the e8A when I get a chance just to be sure...

thanks for finding the thread so quickly! i spent about 30 minutes looking, but didn't get back into February... (actually - i couldn't get back past early-March for some reason... and i didn't see a 'show last xx days' pull down... *shrug* of course, i'm not registered either though...)

200-300Wrms? 300-400Wrms? yikes, i'll have to be more than a little careful with this thing if i use my current amp... how much polyfill were you talking about adding? i'm not so exacting in sub-science that i calculate polyfill... i usually just lightly pack a bit in there and go w/ it... what are you using to plot the setup? i'd love to try and play with it, and to just learn more about how to set that sort of stuff up...

OK... I'm confused now... I'm using winISD pro available from http://www.linearteam.dk . The plot just I did (don't tell my boss! ), using .38 as the box size came out with 500Watts to reach xmax @ 39.85Hz. Here's the graph:

Here's a breakdown of what I came up with:

Power ------- Frequency @ Xmax
500 Watts -- 39.85 Hz
450 Watts -- 36.70 Hz
400 Watts -- 32.43 Hz
350 Watts -- 26.55 Hz
300 Watts -- 16.78 Hz

Looks like the more power you feed it, the more carefully you should adjust your filters. I'm not sure if the T/S parameters have changed, or if I was just given the 'safe' answer without anyone doing a plot... Based on my plot, I think I'm definitely going to hook up the memphis 500D to it, though.

this definately makes me feel better about using the ZR240. i really have no true idea of what it's output will be when i'm at 2ohms... as the birth sheet shows an actual power of 363Wrms @ 4 ohms @ 14.4V for a rated 240Wrms.

still, i went back and double checked my manual just to be sure (vs just going from memory), and i was off by a good chunk for the output at 2ohms.... it isn't 400Wrms, it's 300Wrms! so, it looks as if i'll still be in the safe zone, but i'll probably be right at the edge... not at 550, but at 450Wrms instead... (DOH!)
still my estimated power of 450Wrms is based on a fairly simplistic (and possibly wrong) assumption that the amp will scale up linearly.

either way though, thanks SC for putting my (and possibly your) fears to rest.

now, i just have to worry about ordering the box (after WLaurent has finished yours), and figuring out how much polyfill to stuff in there...

My 8A is shipping to WLaurent, so I won't see it until after he's completed the box fitting and ships the whole shebang. I'm not expecting it anytime before the middle of May.

http://www.edesignaudio.com/ep/overview/8Aoverview.htm

The elemental designs e8A subwoofer. It's an 8 inch driver with 16.5mm of one-way excursion. On paper, it looks to be a phenominal little sub, and based on the reputation elemental has earned over the last year, we're eagerly awaiting this little beauty. They went on pre-order back in January and are supposed to be shipping to customers late next week.
