Default Don't Press 'The Big Red Button'

Well I did what I said I was going to do, I got a NOS kit installed!! First off, I have to say that the S2000 with a NOS kit is unbelievably re-goddamn-diculously fast. Right after I got it installed I started in first with a normal launch and went about 50% throttle to 4000 rpm and then floor all the way to 8K and shift.. the car went from 0-90 so fast ... Well, having owned a 2001 Corvette Z06, I can say that I am very confident that an s2000 with a 50 shot could take a regular Vette EASY and give a Z06 a run for it's money!

It seems like the NOS kit was a key to unlocking so much hidden potential in the F20C. There was no lag at all, just pure brute force power from 4000-8000. I highly recommend it, you just gotta be very careful (if you redline it while spraying then you can blow the engine, thats why I shifted at 8 grand.)

As promised, I had the installer hack the hazard lights to activate the system. It's actually really cool because when it's on it lights up telling you that it's activated.. Plus it's really fun to say "dont press the big red button" heheh..

We got finished at like 3am this morning (July 4) and then realized that the blinkers didn't work after messing with the hazard lights. I took it back later in the day (after some sleep!) and we got that straightened out. Everything works now, except for the hazard lights!! hah

Another awesome point about the install is that it's actually concealed really well, even though we weren't trying that much. I will put the pics up in a new thread and put the link in here...

The NOS bottle is located in the bottom of the trunk where the tire tools are usually located. I wrapped them in bubble wrap and through them in with the spare tire. We took out the trunk carpeting and bolted the bottle to the metal frame. After that, we cut out the floor, so we could put it back in. The top of the bottle is actually lower than the trunk floor level (of the left and right sides) so I am going to make a plexiglass cover for the bottle, or a false bottom so no one will be able to see it.

I am very happy with the install and the results are amazing!!

Chris

Thats amazing. About how long did the installation take? Also, if you don't mind, about how much did it cost. I'm really interested in doing something like it. Thanks

Try and get some videos on your NOSing. I think we'd all like to see what it really can do. If you can, do a NOS vs. Stock race so that we can see how much faster it really is.

Don't forget to check with Wesmaster when your drivetrain starts breaking. NOS does some pretty bad stuff internally too. Good luck!

Yeah, I am familiar with the problems he has been having, from what I understand the problems that he has been having is from launching?? I believe he claimed 30-40K of launching so I dont feel so bad.. I have launched 4 times so far.

I did try a NOS launch (#4) and the car was totally out of control -- completely squirrely -- it was fun! heh heh

Unfortunatly I don't know anyone else in the area who owns a s2k so I can't do a stock vs NOS race. Also I don't have a video camera on hand so I can't take any videos...

The install started at around 7pm, and ended at about 3 am. Most of the time was spent under the dash and tinkering in the console. I then spent another hour or two back at the shop to get the blinkers working again.

The only catch with using the NOS on the hazards is you can't use your turn signals when you have the NOS running.. hah hah

That's nuts man. What kind of NOS system is that you have? Is there no way of setting some kind of 8,500 rpm shut off so that you don't blow the engine? Even if the NOS system is not that intelegent how difficult would it be to hook in to the digital revcounter and have a shut off switch that turns the NOS off if you ever hit 8,500 rpm?

Have Fun

NOS is the brand name, it's a NOS system

Apparently there is a method of shutting off the n02 at a certain RPM with other cars, but no one has done it with an s2000 as far as I know.. It would require splicing some wires to the tach.. I don't know how any of that works unfortunatly, I have to let someone else do it for me..

So, the way you do it is drive the car in first like normal, shift to second...and when the revs get to where you hit the button? Then just leave it on until you're done? Forgive me, I've never had a Nitros system.
