IMHO, however, it seems like a lot of trouble to go through, especially considering how much everything cost (

Agreed its expensive, but I dont have a Alpine head and I dont have a CD changer so this seemed to be the best option.

I can use the dash controls and its very easy to take out the iPod.

Yeah I do need a grommit, but you would'nt believe how hard it can be to find such a simple piece of rubber!

Looks like a nice product. Great install write up!

Is the wiring long enough to reach the glove box compartment? How tight is the iPod held? Could you possibly mount it on a slight downward angle, for instance?

The wire is plenty long enough, the iPod is fairly tight in the cradle, you could probably turn the cradle upside down and it wont fall out so a slight downward angle should be no problem.
