Default resetting "maintenance required"?!

Hey- how the hell do you reset the "maintenance required" light on the dash. In the manual it says to simply keep the "trip" button pressed for a while while the key is on "lock"- but that doesnt do anything for me. I even tried doing that while jumping up and down on one leg and twirlling a hoola-hoop- but still the damn light stays on!!- freaking electronic car gizmos. any advice?

You can PM KeithD about this. He gave me the super-secret directions to reset my light when it came on a while back.

Just kidding about it being "super-secret". I think you have to hold in the "+" button, not the "trip" one.

To reset the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED light:
- Have key inserted in ignition but in the OFF or LOCKED position.
- Push and hold the trip reset button on the right bottom corner of your gauge clutster.
- Turn key to full ON position and continue holding the button till the light goes off.
- (Some manuals may be a bit off in that they do not tell you to turn the key to the ON position.)
NOTE: This light is only a mileage counter and acts as a reminder to do your oil change following the "normal" maintenance schedule. When you have reached a certain mileage after the last reset, it will begin to blink upon each start up. Once you have covered more mileage, it will stay on all the time. The light can be reset anytime after it first blinks or stays on.
(NO, the light does NOT mean your car is about the IMPLODE! -- RELAX!)

What he said. The trick is to have it depressed before you turn your key to ignition-on, and to then keep it depressed for several seconds.

Great!! thanks guys- worked like a charm. My freaking manual doesn't say anything about turning the ignition, and I was starting to get a little frustrated with this.
