I know I can get at least three different variations of camera mounts that bolt on where the exsisting windscreen is, however my problem is that I installed Macgyver's digital windscreen, so that means my windscreen is hard wired in place.
(not Macgyver's fault) When Macgyver designed this digital windscreen he made it so that you could drill a half inch hole in the top of the secret compartment and depending on where you wanted to mount your control box...you could potentially still remove the windscreen.
I wired my windscreen in so that the control box is in the trunk...also to cut down on the hole I had to drill in the top of the secret compartment i cut the half inch plug off the screen and wired it through a 1/4 inch hole and then reattached the plug.
So now you see my delema!!!
Has anyone out there mounted a camcorder anywhere else and had success??? If so please let me know and some pics would be great too.
Make the windscreen removable. This is where you get the best video. You can shoot forward, backward, or the gauges from here.
Bumper cams are also easy to hook up. The only other setups I've seen on the S is to stick the cameras onto the windshield or side windows with suction cup mounts.
All of the track cars that video that I know have roll bars that we attach a mount to, or, in one case, the camera is attached to a mount in the tow-hook receptacle in the front bumper.
Here are some mounting options in action, I made all of the mounts myself or sourced them depending on the mount and I am using high res lipsticks plugged in my camcorder that is safely tucked out of harms way!
