Well the thread on the Street Pilot III got me started on a project that I had been wanting to do for a while. Put a mapping GPS solution in my car.

I fell in love with the Street Pilot III. I liked the way it looked and sounded! Next to a $2k DVD based solution the SPIII is the best.

I however figured to go a different route. I also had a need for a Pocket PC. I bought a Casio Cassiopeia E-125. I can't say enough good things about this PDA. I love it. IMHO it is just below the SPIII.

OK so what did I do? Well I bought a GPS solution for my Pocket PC and installed it in my S2000. I am more than pleased with the result! I get to have one of the best PDA's and a GPS all in my S2000. I get my e-mail, news, weather, and sports downloaded to my PDA every morning. When I put it in the cradle in the car I can use the GPS features to map out my route to my appointments or use it to remind me of a meeting when I am goofing off/playing golf

For the GPS I went with the Pharos StreetNav iGPS solution for the Casio. It came with the Software (with voice navigation), the iGPS module, and combo cable that plugs into the cig lighter and powers the PDA AND THE GPS!!!

I hope to have some OBD-II software for my Pocket PC soon! Yep I can't wait! OBD-II right on my dash in realtime!

OK... Well here comes the best part! I GOT PICS! They are small for the bandwith challenged but if you want the super duper sized ones just PM me.

I think it'll be better if you can find a way to hide that big wire...but it's awesome nevertheless...

Is the screen bright enough to see in sunlight and is the speaker loud enough to hear voice navigation commands when the top is down?

I think it might be time to buy a new toy for my iPaq.

The screen is one of the things I am so impressed with. I have no problems during the day with the top up. I haven't had a chance to try with the top down. I will let you know.
The speaker is pretty loud. I drove with the top down at night around town and didn't have a problem hearing the voice or the dings and bells to let you know when your turn is completed. I haven't taken it on the Interstate yet. I will do so in about an hour when I leave for an appointment. This is a must for anyone with a Pocket PC. You would love this for your IPAQ!! Young S2K: I agree about the big wire. I have a buddy who works at a speaker install shop who told he might be able to come up with something. He told me he would definately have to cut into the dash. I may hold off on that for a while.

OK notes on the install:

I bought Pharos's PDA mount that is suppossed to stick into the A/C vent of your car. Well that isn't going to work in the S2K, so I decided to unscrew the back plate and turn it over and screw the top screws back in. This gave me a flat surface on the back of the mount to use BLACK industrial strength velcro. The mount has a piece of metal with a sticky side that you stick to your PDA. There is a magnet in the PDS holder that grabs the metal backplate now on your PDA and holds it in place. The whole thing is pretty sweet and the PDA is rock solid.

The GPS uses PS/2 serial cables. I had to go buy a six foot extension since I mounted the GPS on the passenger side dash. The GPS is black so it goes nicely with the dash. I used a coat hanger and a ROUNDED off flat head screw driver to poke the wires behind the dash. I unscrewed the plastic piece above the net on the passenger side and hid the PS/2 wired behind that as it came from behind the dash.
