Got tired of looking at all that bare metal and hearing things sliding around in there, so I bought a roll of that urethane (?) non-skid stuff that's used for shelving and rugs, cut it more or less to fit (left a little extra to tuck under in convenient places), taped it down here and there and voila! I have something that may not be very pretty, but I think it looks better than the bare metal and it certainly does help keep things in place.
The material pretty much conforms in shape to whatever it's on, so the varied substrate didn't make a lot of difference. Of course, I need to put some miles on it before I can honestly say it does the job, but here's a look at before and after. (If it proves to work, I may cement some to the bare area above the front lip of the well. That is, if muz doesn't come out with a better solution before then.)

i was thinking that you can just get speaker box carpet from a car stereo place and spray glue it down. It would conform really well and likely match up with the stock stuff closely.
