Default Engine stuttering when dropping to idle?

Don't know if this has been covered or not..

I know some people resort to beating on the map sensor with a screwdriver.

Everytime I would drop to an idle after driving around after the car is warmed up, the engine would act as if it was about to stall but then picked back up to normal idle speeds. It constantly did this. Even if I would blip the throttle at a stop it would stutter and then idle back. This was definitely annoying.

After miles of driving, the throttle body and intake manifold definitely picks up some dirty grime over time. In my case, after 56,000 miles. I had some brake cleaner sprayed all inside the throttle body and manifold and tried wiping off all that I could reach. It definitely was quite black inside!

When starting the car after doing this, it may take a few extra cranks. Don't be alarmed, just allow the rest of the brake cleaner to burn up out the exhaust (yes lots of white smoke comes out) and then after it diminishes a bit, go for a ride. A few hundred miles later it still hasn't done the old stutter at idle any longer.

Hopefully if any of you have this problem, this may be able to lessen the problem or completely eliminate it. Goodluck!

I think I have this problem at 13k miles...

Rev at idle (warmed up) car dips usually 100rpm below normal idle and stutters just a tiny bit.

When you say stutter, what do you mean? I have been having a problem with a noise coming from my car during idle. I just whacked the MAP sensor and most of the noise went away. However, I would like to get rid of all of the noise!

Hey,... I will actually go give this a try! Whacking the map sensor didn't work for me, and lead my friends to think i'm a moron for doing that.

How much do you actually want to spray inside? Do you spray directly inside or try to get the walls and stuff?

Thanks,

Sann

I would guess you spray the sides of the throttle body. Brakecleaner takes off all the grease and other particles stuck to surfaces. After reading this, Im thinking about getting the J's throttle body to save any hassles. We'll see.

Yeah just spray all along the walls. Try to wipe what you can and you can see how dirty it actually is in there.

My car did this just about all the time. This definitely cured the problem.

Thanks a lot guys!

What about doing a full intake cleaning thingy? I remember my friend with a 300zx TT having it done to his car, and he said they did some stuff and all of a sudden they rev' it up and a lot of smoke shot out the back...

Can we do this to our cars? Would it be safe?

Thanks

Go for it. It's so easy to do. Just take off the intake tubing or whatever you have. It's good to clean the butterly real good too. Mine was very black. Definitely worth a shot if you're having anything remotely similar.
