Well I finished my S/C install tonight and went for the intial start-up. It just would not turn over and when it did it stumbled, fell, and then died. I hoped that it was possibly just air in the lines so I tried it again and after a few seconds of cranking it started, tried to jump to 2000rpms for idle and skipped around a bit before leveling off and eventually reaching normal idle.
Now, when it first started, it let out a good amount of white smoke and you could smell fuel in the exhaust. That tapered off after a little while though. I shut it off and checked everything over making sure everything was still tight. I then pressed the button again and waited a second for it to eventually start. I attempted to back out of the garage and it fell on its face when I gave it gas and died... I started to do this
I started it up again and was this time able to get out of the garage and take it out on the road. I was then in for a suprise. As I attempted to pull out onto the main road I gave it gas as I would normally take off from a start and the whole thing started shaking and stumbling as if I had it in 3rd gear. I made sure I was in first and tried again... same thing. I tried giving it more gas and it seemed the more throttle I gave it the worse it would get.
Well to make a long story a little shorter here is the problem: If I gradually apply gas I can rev the car up but the second I apply any pressure whatsover (Not close to WOT) the car stumbles almost like it is hitting a rev limiter. It will do this in any gear. For instance- if I am going 40 in 4th and try to accelerate, it will stumble until I let off and gradually apply throttle. If I am in 1st and try to accelerate it will stumble and I can be at almost WOT and be creeping along stumbling trying to get over 5k rpm.
What could be wrong? I am thinking it is most likely an FPR problem.. Probably too rich? The motor sounds completely different. It is deep and constricted not open and high as usual. It really feels like the car isn't getting enough air. I took the air filter off as it was dirty and it backfired once through the intake tube..
I am sorry this is so long I am just really frustrated and I wanted to make sure I covered anything. Here is my set-up:
Comptech S/C (Purchased Used)
Comptech A/C (Brand new)
Comptech ESM was also brand new.

Sounds like you have the ESM wired in wrong
I had similar problems when I first installed mine - I did a bunch of things at once and the problem went away, First is I soldered the ESM after checking they were installed right then I switched plugs one step colder then I tightened my belt!
Good Luck
Good Luck
Glad I checked this thread.
I've had the same problem but no one has suggested anything with the ESM or connecting wires.
It is possible that from the body shop folks getting in and out of my S might have kicked some wires around as the kick panel was removed. At least it is something different to check.
