Default Review: A Month and a Day With the Spoon Clutch and Flywheel (very long)

OR: My impressions of a month on the street and a day at the track with the Spoon Sports clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel.

Intro:
After Labor Day I finally got around to having the seat belt recall and TSBs 54/55 (clutch and synchros) done on my car (an early MY2000). I wasn't planning any other upgrades, but when the service manager said I should replace both the clutch (which was under warranty) and the pressure plate (which wasn

John,

Thanks for the great report. I just talked with my local dealership who will be performing the TSB 55 (2nd Gear Grind). I also happen to have a spoon clutch /flywheel waiting to get installed and they were more than amenable to install those components (no warrantee on those parts of course!)

Question: How much did the dealer charge for the installation?

Nothing for the clutch, since they had to put a new one in anyway for the TSB. I don't have the receipt in front of me, but IIRC labor for the PP and flywheel were pretty nominal - maybe 50 or 75 bucks each?

I had mine installed for free during my TSB work. There's hardly any extra work when they replace the clutch/pressure plate when the TSB is being done.

I picked up the TODA flywheel/ACT Clutch/ACT Pressure Plate. It is definately more responsive and you do have to upshift quickly.

Thanks for the report. I have the Toda flywheel and Star clutch and think it is a great improvement.
