Default 03 rear bumper on an 04?

Wanted to know if any one knew, or has done this before. I know lots people people convert from pre-04 to the 04 rear bumper with minimal modification. Would anything need to be done to replace the 04 rear with the 03? This is so hard because as much as I love the 04 rear bumper I plan on going with a single exhaust set-up. I am not a fan of having a huge hole on one side of the bumper. The whole idea is to go with the 03(which will still look good), and to go with the single cap mod along with the single exhaust for a clean finish. Any info or pics of this done would be greatly appreciated.

Unless there is some kind of single exhaust cap for the 04 bumper, but I don't believe there is.....atleast not yet.

If you take a look at the '04 rear bumper to an AP1 car, you'll see that a spacer bracket had to be made in order to bridge a gap at the rear attachment. This would indicate that the '04 bumper sits further back at the rear than the '03 bumper does. Now, to put an '03 bumper onto an '04, does this mean that something has to be cut down? I can't answer this but figure this one out and you'll know if it can be done. Otherwise, all else is the same.

"paS2K" had a nice write up on this with some pics of this spacer, but it seems that thread's link no longer works.

interesting would you recommend this being done at a professional shop or can it by ny individual? If it isn't going to be to hard then I have no problem getting it done myself. My only concern is if there ould have to be any actual cutting or things of that nature to the 00-03 bumper in order to get it to fit properly????

I think you need to look into this more closely. Although it is easy enough to put an '04 bumper on an earlier model car with the simple fabrication of a bracket, my concern is that going the other way may prove more daunting. I simply can't tell you whether or not it is possible to make the space required. So far, I have not seen anyone report on this board, of going in that direction. It may very well be that your model year has some sort of built in spacer. You'll have to investigate this and if there is, then I can only guess that the "spacer" needs to be cut back.
You may be the pioneer in this mod, so you may be on your own.

SPOON EIGHT has an '00-'03 bumper on his '04. I'm not sure if he needed to do anything to fit it, but PM him and ask

You could always get a good shop to fabricate something or fill. But it wouldn't look as streamlined as the AP1 with the cap.
