More about the oil?
So I've noticed that a lot of members have switched to synthetic oil. So I have a stock setup and would synthetic make a noticeable difference? Engine wear, MPG, performance? I've never had a car that I felt I should take really good care of. But now with the S I feel like doing my own maintenance. So my other questions are where do I get a Helms manual and/or equivalent? And I've heard of oil drain plugs that make the job a lot easier and cleaner. Then there are basics like good brands, oil filter, redline water wetter, etc. Any and all input would be helpful. Even if its pointing me to a forum that has already covered all this... thx.
HandA (whose web site is currently unavailable, it seems) sold me a Honda service manual -- a 1.5" thick three-ring punched book. I don't know if that's like a "Helms manual", but it's got everything but parts numbers in it. HPH
After reading everything you can in the oil journals make the choice depending on what you feel your needs are. A lot of people on here are using synthetic, I myself am not. Which is better? That all depends on you.
the 'oil journals' will tell you tons so read them and you'll get an answer.
I'll give you what I use so you get a quick answer.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic every 3500 miles with the Honda PCX filter.
I get the oil from Advance auto parts. There it is $5 a quart. Our cars take 5 quarts. If you buy a case (6) I think it's slightly cheaper. I order the filter from hardtopguy.com which has become my favorite S website as their customer service and shipping is A++++.
I actually added Redline Water Wetter to my car 5 hours ago!
I can't tell you much about how it's doing but from what I've heard it won't hurt your car and should lower your temps somewhat so I did.
From hearing other people's oil choices it seems Amsoil, Mobil1, and Redline are very popular and affective.
btw..I have an '03 with 17K miles
