Default Roll Back on driveway

Without going into all of the details, I was parked on top of a driveway, which was flat. The e-brake was up all of the way, not in gear, and the car rolled back and caused damage. Someone told me, after the accident, that this was a common problem with the car, but I don't see any recalls on the issue. Any suggestions would be great. I've already filed a claim with insurance, and no one was an actual witness of the car rolling back. We were all inside the house when it happened. I would assume that I am liable, since I was last to drive the car and I put the e-brake up. It rolled back into a huge rock, and caused bad damage to the exhaust, and both bumpers. Hopefully no frame damage. Adjuster will be coming out soon.

Wow, I haven't seen one of these in months.

The ebrake on the S2000 sucks. Make sure you always park in gear.

It's not considered a safety hazard as the ebrake is a suplementary system. The manual tells you to leave the car in gear when parked.

As your brakes cool, the e-brake loosens up. Happens with most cars. That's why manual transmission cars should always be parked in gear.

Plus, if your brakes are really hot, you might not want to permanently engage them anyway.

Dude- same thing happened to me about a year ago. Couldn't believe it when I woke up and found my S2000 having rolled down the driveway and rubbing the house!

I always leave the car in gear now.

It's hasn't been THAT long since the last post on this topic, last thread I remember was in May:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=294832

And according to TexanS2k, his car was parked in gear (and the e-brake engaged) and it still rolled (but it was on a slope). Personally I have never seen or heard of a car rolling while parked in gear, but they re-created it with the dealer mechanics. So I guess anything is possible. Good luck.
