I know this has been asked before, but a lot of the old threads left the topic and didn't point out bluntly (required by idiots like me) which speakers are the best and easiest to install on our S2k's? I'm already scared about taking the door panels off, and I don't want to get in there and have to go get some obscure part to make it work.
I guess I'm looking for a reccomendation along with a list of added things that are required, or required to do.
Thanks!

Which speakers are best is subjective. It may also be affected by what you want to spend. And unless you intend to install an amp, I'd suggest not spending too much.

The easiest are speakers which don't require you to modify the baskets, and don't use separate tweeters.

I'd check a few of the thread here about speaker upgrade, and check out the Audio section of S2ki.com. I think you'll be looking at something like the Sony 3 ways or the Kenwoods.

Okay, but I'm just asking What are the best ones that I can just 'pop in' with minimal effort?

Buy from Crutchfield and get the harness (no splicing) for a plugin installation. SONY XSV 1621 fit without mods as do several others. Do a search for some of those. This upgrade is very easy, and should take less than an hour.

I like the stock system, has lots off bass and sounds fine, definately have to replace the nasty head unit though, that's where the blaupunkt travelpilot comes in

If anyone can make the dash controls work, it would be Pinky. I'd say if you are just upgrading speakers, find a speaker with a high sensativity, and just a basic 2 or 3way will do well. Since our deck is not THAT high power of a deck, its better to find a namebrand speaker that operates on less wattage. that way its most efficient range, or I should say, the best sounding range, will be in the lower wattage area of the stock HU. I've upgraded the cheesy HONDA stock speakers in every Honda I've owned, and in afew Acuras too, and it does make a difference. BUT, be warned, once you start, its hard to stop upgrading.

Thanks, I'm about to order the Sony 1621's from crutchfield.com, Hope they go in okay! Also, does anyone know of a mp3 cd changer? Like a cd changer that can play mp3's that have been burned on a data cd. I know Aiwa and Kenwood make head units, but I don't want to loose the steering controls, and since our stereo has CD-Changer controls that would work...

Once you get that panel off you will see you didn't have much to worry about. It's fairly easy to do. Good luck!
