Default plastic window ripped

I put my top down today and the plastic, rear window ripped. Its only a 3 inch rip but moisture is still getting in. Am I going to have get a new top or can the window itself be replaced? I bought my S used and I dont think the warranty I bought covers this.

thanks for your help

i'd say you'll probably need to get the whole top replaced.

The window can be replaced separately, but it is not just a zip-in job. You might want to think about replacing the top (not the frame) with a 2002+ one, which has a glass window.

Same thing happened to me last spring. I was able to replace the window in the top in roughly 6 hours. If I had to do it again, it could be done MUCH quicker.
Basically, you have to take the ENTIRE rear interior out and "undo" the top from the trunk. Then, you zip in the new window and put everything back. If/when you do this, beware of the seat belt tensioners which must come out.
I think I was able to find the directions on how to do it on this forum. The cost of the new window was roughly $200 which was MUCH less than the $3000 dealer quote for replacing the entire top.
If you can't find directions, let me know and I will see what I can find.

Same thing happened to me a long time ago and still have not replaced it. My car sat for 3 months during the winter. I came home from Spain and went for a 30degree top down drive and it cracked. It has gotten worse and worse and has completely split my window in half. It is full of tape. Ugly! I bought a new 2002 top and will be doing the conversion. I was quotes $350 to have the plastic window replaced at a convertible shop. The dealer wanted to charge me $1200+. It is your choice, but I sprang for the top because I also have bad wear holes on the sides.
