Moderators: Just a thought.
With 956 'Owners' but 5620 members, should a message starting: I blew up, lost to a GEO, broken this, that, the other etc only perhaps be allowed by owners not enthusiasts who could be Z3 trolls?
(Just a suggestion, but with only a 17% ownership rate, any casual viewers could be scared off by misreporting).
Apologies to those in advance who've had a problem becoming an enthusiast, it took me a couple of go's I remember.

The # of owners is way more than that, I estimate about 3500 of the 5600 or so members are owners past/present or future. Many have either chosen not to register their VIN or haven't felt a need or don't know anything about registering their VIN.
Beginning Dec 1st, there will be plenty of reasons to register as you will find out then. I'm also looking at detaching the VIN from your user profile so there will be no way of relating VIN to member and vice versa. That hopefully relieve some of the skepticism about entering one's VIN. I need to store the VINs to check for duplicates but it's not completely necessary to store the VIN in the members account profile. It was just expedient.
As for computationally evaluating the merit of what one says, I don't know. It would be nice if the software could flag a post as BS based on what someone said in previous posts but for now I think we'll have to stick to letting the reader evaluate that for themselves.

Not-yet-owner here - it is due in April, '02 Spa!
The idea of storing my VIN in some location where others can not view it is extremely good; I like that and hope it is implemented. I can understand why there might be some hesitancy for people to post their VIN is someplace where others can view it.
And- yes now I'm very curious about December 1!!! I can only hope I don't loose my ability to read and post. Keep up the great work!

Hmmm.. Dec. 1 is only a few weeks away. I guess I'll have to wait to see what cthree has in store.
I was worried about the VIN issue, but I figure it would take a court order to match the VIN with the username, since privacy issues are so strict in CA.
