I've fitted an Alpine HU, Infinity Kappa 60.5 door speakers, but for driving with the top down I wanted headrest speakers to put the sound where I could hear it.

Roll hoop speakers don't appeal to me, and I don't want to start cutting holes, so I tried to find a way of fitting some speakers into the seat backs in a way that looks OE, and does not involve making irreversible changes to the car.

After a lot of listening in Halfords and checking specs I found that the Sony XS-F1034 10cm/4 inch three way speakers fitted the bill. *** See below***
Also, they have a flat front, which is needed. Power rating is OK with the HU, they are going to be turned down relative to the fronts anyway.

Speakers now updated with Clarion's. They use silk dome tweeters and have good bass for their size. See Below




I used some carpet sold for speaker boxes etc to add some pads to the speaker fixings. This acts as a spacer between the front of the speaker and the grill, fixed with double sided tape.
I then fixed the speaker into the headrest with cable ties.



I had previously drilled a hole for the cable through the bottom of the headrest insert. The cable to feed the speaker was passed up inside the seat using a wire coat hanger to pull it through.

Finally I made caps to fit into the back of the headrest out of carpet. I cut a piece the exact shape of the hole and then another piece about an inch wide to glue around the edge with superglue to make a 'hat'.
This had to be tapered in and produced a domed shape which eccos the shape of the headrest trim.
I added velcro hooks inside the the rear trim top, bottom and sides. This grips directly on the carpet.

Without looking out the window (and to risk sounding thick), the headrest backs are normally black aren't they?
