I run a Sony Head Unit on my S2000. I like it, and I LOVE my iPod so I wanted to try to connect them together.
I did a lot of research, and the best option I could find was the Connects2USA iPod to Sony adapter. I got mine at Crutchfield, but it is no longer available. It appears that Sony has bought out the product and is now marketing it under their own name brand.
The connection was fairly easy, but stock wiring was too short to do anything "cool." So I bought a Sony RC-91 kit, which is an extra long set of RCAs and the Sony Uni-Link cable. I got mine off of eBay.
My center console is FULLLLLLLLL of wires, and I could not get any more to fit through there. I ended up running the wires around the back of the passenger footwell, and then under the passenger side door sill, up the side panel and behind the "vented" panel behind the passenger seat.
I mounted the interface box behind that panel with a little double sided tape to keep it in place.
I fed the wire that connects to the iPod itself through the hinge in the center console, and got it up into the area where the adaper box is located. I placed the iPod on the backside of the center console door. (I just put the elastic strap over the iPod for now. A better solution is in the works.)
The interface works quite well. The iPod shows up as CD2 on the HU. Pressing Disk Change will allow you to change between Playlists. If you want to random play the entire iPod, the name of the iPod is selectable as a playlist. The shuffle system works well. It remains within the Playlist, if a playlist is selected. There is a SLIGHT pause when you click next or previous track. The HU will display the name of the next track immediatly, but it takes a split second to select the song. The Playlist name, or track name is displayed on the HU.
The iPod's own interface is disabled while using the Sony adapter, so you cannot search for a song or change a playlist on the iPod itself. You have to use the HU to make any changes.
The adapter does charge the iPod while playing. If you are listening to a song that is on the iPod when you turn the car off, the song will resume exactly where you left off when you restart the car.
All this and it was about 1/2 the price of most of the options I have seen for iPod interfaces.
