Default Help! T1R STB

UPDATE!!

It's a genuine T1R bar, as proved by AJ Racing. See my post at the bottom.

Original Post
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just got my T1R STB in the mail today. The box is torn up pretty good, and instructions and hardwares are missing. What can I say? Parcel post. Anyway, contacted the seller (not an S2KI member or sponsor) for those, still waiting for reply.

So I took the STB out of the broken box and inspected them, making sure they aren't damaged as well. Good news: they are not. Bad news: the welds are so shoddy that they looked like it's done by high school shop students. Some pics:

Link to my gallery: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?act=m...bum&album=21336

Besides, the poor welds, there is also no "T1R" sticker as seen here:
http://www.aj-racing.com/catalog/product.p...4&cat=81&page=5

and here:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=377169

Not a sticker whore, but combined with the shoddy welds I think what I've gotten might be a counterfeit. Should've known that when the price is about half of what AJ Racing is asking. I bought the item on eBay, here is the link to the original listing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...%3AAAQ%3AUS%3A1

Can someone with a T1R STB show me some pics of its workmanship?

If later on the STB I bought is determined to be a counterfeit, what recourses do I have? I paid via Paypal, and used a credit card. I guess I can always go to my credit card company and file a dispute, since the seller is trying to sell this STB as genuine T1R parts. Well, that's for later. For now, some pics on a real T1R STB please!!

I would say, fake. I could weld better than that after stabbing my eyes out with a fork.

Sorry to see they sent ya piece of crapola. I would certainly contact the seller and the credit card company

In all honesty (and I dont know crap about welding) but in my opinion...it looks like the weld quality is identical to the pictures you have linked to here:

"and here:

That ebay seller has a pretty good rep. on there (not that it means much) The only negative thing anyone has said was

"shift knob arrived without spoon sticker, won't return e-mails. wasted $60.00"

Maybe he just doesn't always check to make sure the sticker is there?

Don't really care about the sticker. Still waiting for him to reply to me regarding the missing hardwares. I'll see how it pans out. No reply to my email = dispute filed with credit card company.

The weld quality is not as good as those I've seen on the Spoon X-braces. Given it's T1R, I expected the same, or similar, quality workmanship. I know the welds in my links look similar to the one I have, but they are not close-up shots. Talked to an S2KI member who ordered a T1R STB from AJ Racing . He will post some pictures once he receives it. I'll know for sure by then.

On second thought, a steel bar is a steel bar. I don't have to be a badge whore, do I? hehe Otherwise I'd driving a BMW Z4 2.5 with automatic tranny. But I still need the hardware.

I would say fake as well. Read an article about the fake stuff on Ebay like the Tein, Greddy and other stuff. Hope everything works out.

Well at least you're staying somewhat positive about the whole thing. Hopefully if it's fake you can work something out or better yet....hopefully its for real. Keep us updated.

Got the seller's reply about the missing hardware. He stated those should be "attached" to the bars. I double-checked and there is none. Emailed him back with pictures of the broken box and pics of the bars.

I mentioned something about an exchange or return. The seller stated it's his company policy not to do exchanges or returns, unless it's deemed defective by both parties. The terms and conditions are set to protect the seller. Hmph. I'll see what he says about the missing hardware.

Anyway, just sent him a rather blunt email asking whether if the STB is real deal or fake. Ha! Like I'll get him to say it's a knock-off. But then again, how can he prove it to me? I mean, T1R probably make hundreds of them, if not thousands, and they don't get embossed with serial numbers. Oh well.

I'll keep you all updated.

Hmmmm...interesting.

Okay, what the hell, let's see if you really can weld better than that after stabbing your eyes out with a fork.

I learned on a stick welder from my dad and used MIG and TIG at the body shop, I'm certainly not the greatest welder in the world, but some of those look like crap

My guess is that it is the real deal. People think JDM stuff is perfect, but have you seen the flaws in real Spoon air ducts for example? The fake spoon intakes have better CF weave quality.
