Default If you've had MAP sensor problems please read this!!!

Hey Moderators, please leave this thread here, I want everyone to see it.

I want to get a list of people together that have had the MAP sensor problem (ie. hesitation @ high RPM's, anemic VTEC, idle problems, etc) so that we can get a Service Bulletin issued on it.

I recently had the MAP sensor problem and it made me very frustrated because the dealer had no information on it (they wanted to replace the thermostat) even though I believe it's becoming common. I'm certain we here at The S2K center of the universe can change that and avoid further confusion for other owners in the future.

All I ask is that if you have had this problem (for a full explanation do a search on MAP sensor or see my recent thread https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=44055) please post your car's year, and the mileage that it occurred.

This has been discussed, but my belief is that there are many more people with this problem, some that don't even know it.

Thanks guys

P.S. I will be adding this to the FAQ shortly

Andrew

I have a '01, and have had hesitation problems when driving in traffic with the a/c on from day one. Don't know if it's MAP sensor related. I can reproduce this problem frequently, although when I took it to the dealer, I couldn't reproduce the problem! The problem is taking off in first gear, then the car bogs and if you don't put the clutch in and rev it a little, the car will jerk back and forth. The problem can happen in second gear at low rpms too (<2000). This is my major gripe with my car, and I don't like to look like a dork when the car does this. It seems to happen only in stop and go traffic with 3 bars and with the a/c on.

I believe I have the problem. 01/18,000. Right now I'm trying to tell if it's the MAP or a bad tank of gas. But I have all of the symptoms

FYI, this is the same MAP sensor used on Accords also.

My '01 also have the jerk back and forth problem in first gear since day one. I've always thought that was my driving. Anyone else with similar experience?

Why not just buy a new one. They are $43 @ HandA.

Will Honda replace the MAP sensor even if you can't reproduce the problem with their service department? I tried, but since I couldn't get the car to do it with the service guy, they didn't want to do anything. Has anyone gotten it done just by the word of the owner? Maybe I should just bring my video camera with me and tape it!

I would like to, but not if Honda will cover it under warranty. It makes me wonder how long does the MAP sensor last before it starts to act up?

If the service department can't reproduce the problem, they're going to guess. On my car the problem was clearly the map sensor, but the tech thought I wasn't letting the car warm up or there was a warm up issue. He was wrong because if the car isn't warm there is no 6-9K RPM, there is a fuel cut-off (the car would clearly go into the higher RPM's). This didn't stop him from ordering a thermostat . Had it not been for JoeS2K, cdelana and a few others reminding me of the MAP sensor threads, I might have let them do whatever (not having any power over what is done and not done). Thanks to them, it only took a flick of my finger to fix my car (temporarily). This is what I'm trying to avoid for future S2K owners via a service bulletin. I don't want those monkeys doing whatever to my car, I want it fixed and I want to be GONE from there.
