LS1 Camaro vs S2K and poll within
Forgive my stubborness, but I'm having an impossible time coming to grips with these LS1 kill stories. I mean I have absolutely no problem with saying that a particular S2K beat a particular LS1, mad props to you guys who have done it. I'm sure you did and I have never called BS or anything of that sort. I know that strange things happen on the streets and I'm not quick to call BS on anyone.
What I would like to say is that I'm virtually positive sure that I can get a bone stock LS1 Camaro and beat a bone stock S2K (or even slightly modded for that matter) 10 times out of 10 on a flat level surface with decent traction, decent weather and decent drivers in each vehicle.
Insomniak is a local Houston S2K guy I believe and I'd like to enlist his assistance in helping me come to grips with this issue (and maybe even prove me wrong ). I'd like to get Insomniak (or another local guy) in his S2K and a friend of mine with a BONE STOCK camaro to race. Just simple 1/4 mile from a dead stop type stuff. Each party can "practice" their launches and get a feel for the road and then we'll video it and see how it goes.
My prediction is that the S2K will win not win a single race.

i'm game. my car goes into the shop thursday though.. not sure if i'll have it back by the weekend.. maybe LS1 vs stock civic?
Seriously though i've had a few encounters w/ LS1's.. from a stop.. i don't stand a chance.. low 13/high 12 car.. vs low 14/high 13 car. but i'll run anyway. i did encounter 1 bad driver on westheimer and it was pretty even.
I would like to run him from a 60mph+ punch as well.. which is what the 2 LS1 kill stories i've seen on here were.. highway runs over 60mph.

I said 7 or more to the LS1.
But, will the LS1 be automatic or 6-spd?
Against a 6-spd I could see a good S2K driver pulling a length off the line on a mediocre/poor launch by the LS1. With a little reaction time advantage that might be enough to just hold off a "slower" example of the breed (290 wheel vs. 310 :-).
Against an automatic the S2K driver will not be able to consistently keep up off the line, but might stay a little closer on the go.
Personally, I never thought my S2K stood a chance against an LS1 F-body. I've seen plenty at the track, be they 6spd or auto, running mid 13's above 105 mph. However, the one street encounter I had I ran from 30-80 against a Camaro and didn't lose an inch. Surprised me to no end. I think the biggest disadvantage for the S2K wil be in 3rd gear, where the LS1's really seem to pull.

I put other. You left out the option for... the better driver will win.
As for your flat road, good traction, good weather, even drivers, etc.... you are asking for perfect conditions, which you almost NEVER get on the street. No two drivers are the same. And on the street at stoplights and on freeways, there are just too many variables to say one way or another that an S or an LS1 camaro will win. The LS1 camaros are the slowest of the LS1 cars. It's 50/50 chance every race.
