LA is probably part of the Cal Club Region. Check out their site (can't figure out why they have two?) and contact one of the officers.

Our next autoX is at california speedway in Fontana on June 23rd and 24th. It is easier for a new comer to come on the 24th since the 23rd is usually packed really fast by the members. If you come as a new comer you can request a instrutor for your runs and also have an instructor drive your car as well. I would highly suggest coming in the morning (7:30-8am) in order to get a course walk in and also to register as well. Most likely we will be having a new comer course walk where an experienced instructor will take you out on course and tell you how to read the cones and how to take the turns. Also there is a driver's meeting in the morning that you have to attend.

june 24th you can register in the morning. come early in the morning so you can get a spot for sure. the 24th is a "championship" but it is actually the easiest way to try autoX since the cap limit for participants is much higher. plus it's cheaper so if you don't like autoX you wouldn't have wasted that much money. also there are lots of things that are geared towards new-comers for example new comer course walk.
