Updated Photos of Install and passenger side sub in later post

I built this for myself - as I did not want to sacrifice my precious trunk space. It is constructed of fiberglass and MDF and is ported for an 8" sub (tested with Cerwin Vega and Rockford Fosgate 8", 4 ohm, single voice coil). I have been building custom enclosures for self and friends for quite few years (installed for a living during college years) - this is by-far my most creative enclosure, given the space limitations.

I am powering it with a Sony XPLOD 800 4 channel x 75 (rear channel bridged to sub and front channels to front speakers) and get really good base response considering it is an 8" sub in a trunk with minimal shared air with the front cabin. Tried an Alpine 4x35 with 75 watts feeding the sub and it was insufficient -definitely requires a good punchy amp.

I am currently working on a 10" unit, but have not tested - am concerned about the limited volume. The 8" adds good depth and puts a little audio rumble in the roadster seats.

So far I have constructed 2 units (one for a friend) but could make more if there was a desire from others.

Have not thought about a price, but would if there is interest?

That is a really nice install. I am very impressed.

Can you tell me what the volume of the enclosure is? I have a few 10" subs that only need 0.5 ft^3 and that would be an ideal location for mounting them.

Thanks.

I think I got about 0.55 ft^3. Do to odd shape I am guesstimating my volume. I resurfaced my mold (gell-coat got scratched on 2nd box) and forgot to fill it with water ahead of time - the gel coat repair needs a good few days to cure before I add the water for true volume test.

What 10" sub's only require 0.5 ft^3?

I'm impressed too.

I suppose it's easy enough to remove so that I could take it out when I want to fit some golf clubs in the trunk.

How much would something like that cost?

How do you go about making a sub box out of fiberglass?

Sorry, typo on my part, they need about 1.5ft^3. hmmmm, don't think I can make an enclosure 3x that size to fit there, back to the drawing board. Anyway the subs are made by Savard.

Thanks

I will buy one of these. This is the best answer for a subwoofer in the trunk that I have seen. Where is it ported? It looks big enough to be enclosed.

Great job on the enclosure. What are you thinking cost wise for it?
