Custom 8" Sub-Enclosure
I was thinking about buying another box that someone on here made for $160 that fit in the tool kit storage area. But, I think I like this one a little better.
I'd definitely be interested if the price was right! I'd need the enclosure only to fit an 8" Alumapro. Thanks.

I may be wrong, but I don't see how this would produce enough bass to travel all the way into the car to be audible at highway speeds. I know people who've installed 10" subs in the trunk well with enough power and were not happy. Maybe it's the port vs. sealed difference, I'm no expert.
I currently have an 8" Polk in a Q logic box in the trunk. I have tested the sound with a test disc and there is plenty of low frequency down to about 40 hz. It is a very tight bass but may not appeal to those who want a blurry thump.
I would think that a 6" sub in an enclosure above the passengers feet would sound better than an 8" in the trunk. I guess I'll have to hear one to tell for sure. The JL audio 6W0 only requires 0.15 of space.
To be honest - you are not gonna win the "BIG THUMPER" award at the "shine and show" with an 8" in the trunk. I saw an S2000 in California that was essentially a rolling stereo - 3 12's and 4 amps in the trunk (all Soundstream and Alumapro stuff). There was no spare tire and not enough room left in the trunk to put a spare pair of socks - but it sounded really, really awsome.
What it does provide is a much fuller sound and some rumble in the seats. I get great performance with the top and windows down - up until about 55. From 55 to about 70 it sounds better than just OK if the windows are up. Much beyond 70 I am more interested in what my radar detector is saying than the stereo.
The key, I have found, is a good quality SUB and AMP. MY first attempt was an entry level Cerwin Vega ($40) driven by 70 watts from an Alpine amp. To get the sound from the trunk to drivers seat I was turning the gain most of the way up - caused clipping and the early demise of the sub (well it was only $40). I took a Sony XPLOD amp out fo the 4-Runner and installed a Rockford Fosgate HE. Sound was awsome (not like the awsome in the first paragraph), but Sony amps like good airflow and a cooler ambient temp than is available in the trunk of an S2000 in Arizona (which has been in the mid 90's the last 2 weeks). Final version is the RF HE sub driven by a RF Punch 150. The Rockford Fosgate setup seams to be nearly bullet-proof so far (no thermal problems and the sub sounds great in the enclosure).

I just installed my laurent subwoofer enclosure with an 8" Polk and am extremely impressed. The workmanship is first rate and the subwoofer takes up very little space in the corner. It is very light and can be taken out in less than a minute. An 8" sub provides a nice, tight low end that the speakers up front can't provide. I am not a fan of thumping, blurry, artificial bass so this approach is perfect for my system. I am always amazed at the ingenuity of the people on this board. Nice job,
William.
